For Now, Unexplained.

The latest collection from Harris Reed is a moment in a time, captured — yet not defined — by a journey towards unexplained, unashamed self-expression. When the now feels uncertain, the designer, with his first collection since graduating Central Saint Martins, encourages finding certitude within, all combusting in signature flamboyant fluidity.

…For Now, Unexplained.

The six-look collection sees Reed continue his exploration of London’s visual history, uniting the anarchy of the punk movement with the debutantes and their dressmakers who define Britain’s aristocratic past. Full-skirted tulle is paired with “menswear” tailoring to pose a new construction of dress seemingly neither one nor the other, but a new fluid fixation instead. Here, the clothes are used to dress a body that remains the foremost focus in the overall construction.

The collection finds its spirit in combustion. From concentrations of pressure, beautiful things can flourish. Hand-sprayed volume bursts from seams and lapels, tumbling in a colour palette moving through a spectrum of shades intended to emulate the changing auras and act as an extension of feelings the individual looks evoke.

Demi-couture gowns are finished with headpieces created in collaboration with Vivienne Lake that take their inspiration from punkish mohawks, but instead come realised in peacock plumes. Custom ROKER boots provide the footwear, a striking contrast set against the romanticism of the tulle and the masculinity of the tailoring.

The collection film explores a character’s journey through lacquered corridors and draped rooms, where they are presented with different facets of themself, each version with a different aura and tone. They walk through darkness and water until they find their way to an infinity room, where they meet with all of who they are.

Reed was supported by ongoing collaborators M·A·C and their Director of Makeup Artistry Terry Barber, who worked closely with Reed on looks that explore identity, freedom, and beauty of fluidity itself. The M·A·C X Harris Reed makeup collection was used as the focus products for the looks created.

Harris Reed is looking to the horizon, facing the unknown with a rebel streak and allowing for space, growth and exploration in this current moment. Whatever comes next, comes next. For now, this is how it exists.
